Color, light, form, space, and texture. These are visual characteristics present in every aspect of our lives. What we choose to do with the elements determine the richness of our artistic concepts. Every aperture contains a glimpse into another realm. Look upward and experience a correlation with art. Ceilings contain our world within reach of a personal expectation. In this series of 84 images, I would like to showcase my interpretation of the ceiling's beauty.
In the series Farenheight by Elaine, the piece 5/24/09 will be discussed. It is possibly a late 80’s light fixture hanging from a popcorn ceiling. The light reflected onto the ceiling suggests a multitude of glass in the light fixture below (cropped out of photograph). The tone is a sepia color. Is this because the glass is tinted? The fact that the fixture isn’t placed in the composition isn’t important. The ceiling expresses the complete story of the light. There is a distinct silence in this composition. There is nothing else happening on this lonely surface. The viewer is blinded by the possibility of eye level views. Is there a loud birthday happening below? Despite any social interaction on ground level the artist is disengaged. This is a possible expression of isolation in a suburban environment. Is this an expression of distaste for suburbia? This could be further exaggerated into a stoned suburban teen’s fascination with the light reflection patterns created by the fixture. Either way, this potential family member isn’t part of the unit of the whole.
